These days, there is a smartphone app for just about everything. If you need to get a ride to work, pay for your parking, or request a refill for your prescription, there are apps that can assist with any of things. According to a recent news article from International Business Times, there is now an app to assist people with running their home medical marijuana grown operation.

mobile-phone-in-hand-1438232-2-m.jpgIn reality, the company sells a complete home grow operation that is run and monitored via a smartphone app compatible with their new product. Under normal circumstances, running a home grow operation can be somewhat complicated and expensive. You would first need to convert a closet or small bedroom to house the indoor grow operation. You would need to install irrigation systems, grow lights, and monitoring equipment to make sure there is the right temperature and balance of light and water. You also have to frequently change water levels as the plants mature and keep bugs away from the plants for several months until they are ready to harvest.

The owner of a company designing the homegrown operation has produced a fully contained system that looks attractive (actually like a giant white smartphone) and is fully automated. He is calling this a “plug and plant” hydroponics operation. The company claims the sleek-looking four foot tall grow operation will allow you to plant the marijuana, close the cabinet and monitor the progress on your smartphone. After around three months, the system will produce two full-grown marijuana plants without any work on your part, mess, or odor of marijuana in your home during the growing process.

With increased support for medical marijuana legalization and complete marijuana legalization, the medical cannabis industry has not only become a legitimate business but also a potentially very profitable business.

orangebud.jpgWhile not too many years ago, High Times magazine was seen as a fringe publication for those who enjoyed smoking marijuana and illegally growing it at home, the magazine has now become a major force in the commercialization of the medical marijuana industry.

According to a recent article from San Francisco Gate, the magazine’s annual California Cannabis Cup is ready to go and will host thousands of attendees who wish to learn about the industry and sample the various products from the 420 medical cannabis collectives selected to participate in the event.

There will licensed medical doctors present throughout the weekend festival to diagnose patients and, if appropriate, give them a medical cannabis recommendation letter, which will allow them to sample the medical cannabis products on site during the festival.

One of the most damaging claims of those who are against legalization of medical marijuana or even decriminalization is that doing so would make it easier for teens to get their hands on marijuana. Saying something will corrupt children has always been a powerful argument. But there is also substantial evidence to suggest marijuana legalization for adults does not have a negative effect on most teens.

teeninlove.jpgAccording to a recent article from Forbes, a new study finds legalization of medical marijuana has not led to an increase in teen usage. The study was just published in The Lancet psychiatry journal. With it, researchers looked at the differences between marijuana use in teens in the 21 states that have medical marijuana legislation on the books and those states that do not. As it turns out, there was no significant difference in marijuana use in the two groups of states.

The researchers utilized over 24 years of data from more than 1 million teens from the 48 contiguous states in the continental United States. The study focused on marijuana use in teens ranging in ages from 13 to 18. Researchers from Columbia University’s epidemiology department did find that, while there is no increase in teen usage in states after legalization, there was a higher frequency of teen usage in these states prior to legalization, as compared to states that have not legalized medical marijuana, but there was no significant change following legalization.

In 1996, California led the way in medical marijuana legalization. This was a very big step, and it was done at a time when the federal government and the United States Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) had every intention of arresting and prosecuting even the sickest of medical marijuana patients for doing something that was legal under California state law.

ballot.jpgNot only were DEA agents going after patients and dispensary owners, the Federal Depositors Insurance Corporation (FDIC), and other federal banking oversight agencies were going after any banks that allowed medical cannabis dispensary owners to hold accounts at their respective banks, since they considered all this money proceeds from an illegal enterprise. The IRS was also going after people for claiming, or not claiming, what they considered illegal income on tax documents.

According to a recent news article from the Los Angeles Times, the shifting attitudes and relaxation toward marijuana use has gone a long way in removing the stigma long associated with marijuana use.

vancouver-hemp-rally-1-jpg-407664-m.jpgLess than two decades ago, marijuana dealers were seen as a dangerous drug dealers engaged in criminal activity. This was not just some, but all sellers of marijuana. Parents would routinely warn children to stay away from anyone selling marijuana, and people would talk about how the drug was destroying the community and robbing it of its values.

There is no doubt that the American public is fascinated by celebrities and everything they do. People love to watch reality shows where celebrities live their ordinary lives, though it is often obvious that many of this reality show situations were set up by the show’s producers.

medicaldoctor3.jpgThis love for watching celebrities even in their minutia extends to their marijuana consumption habits. According to a recent article from New York Jewish Week, a woman who is known as Los Angeles’s Queen of Cannabis is now considered the marijuana “doctor” to many of Hollywood’s most famous residents. She operates her medical cannabis dispensary out of West Hollywood.

One of her biggest customers and supporters is the famous rapper Snoop Lion, formerly known as Snoop Dogg, and he has his personal indoor grow operation custom-painted marijuana greenhouse at her dispensary, where she keeps it operating at full capacity. He was given the greenhouse as a gift from the maker, complete with his name painted on the product, but he did not have anyone to use it, so he turned it over to his long time friend and marijuana doctor, as he named her, to keep it filled with cannabis plants.

According to a recent news report from the Orange County Register, plaintiffs have filed multiple lawsuits against the City of Santa Ana in relation to the public lottery held to distribute licenses for marijuana collections within the city. The lottery system was created as part of a new ordinance pertaining to medical marijuana, and plaintiffs allege they way in which city officials used the lottery was fraudulent, and it makes it more difficult for patients desperately in need of medical marijuana to obtain their medicine.

lawandorder.jpgPlaintiffs filed their respective complaints between December of last year and May of this year. One of the main problems plaintiffs have with the ordinance is that it requires at least 500 feet between medical marijuana dispensaries and 1,000 feet separation from any school, park, or residential zones.

While some regulation is understandable, as the city officials were hesitant to allow multiple dispensaries in one location, as some extremists fear it would end up looking similar to Amsterdam’s famous red light district, these vastly over-broad restrictions result in a large portion of medical marijuana patients in certain areas of the city being put at a serious disadvantage, as it is not possible to adhere to these regulations and still operate a legal dispensary. In other words, the law selects where, and in reality, who, can own these medical marijuana dispensaries. This is where the fraud allegations come into play.

earth-3d-1155576-m.jpgAccording to a recent news article from the Mic.com, Sarandon now says legalization of marijuana can go a long way in making the world a better place in which to live. She discusses how it is not only an important source of income for workers and business owners, but it has been shown to be an effective treatment option for children who have seizures.

Despite the fact that the majority of the public, especially in California, supports medical marijuana and even total legalization, law enforcement agencies in the state are doing whatever they can to crack down on the medical marijuana industry.

handcuffs.jpgAccording to a recent report from the San Francisco Gate, authorities raided a state licensed medical marijuana dispensary operating in the South Tahoe area. Authorities have released a statement saying that, on June 1, 2015, a joint operation between the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office, El Dorado County District Attorney’s Office, South Lake Tahoe Police Department, California Department of Justice, South Lake El Dorado Narcotics Enforcement Team, the Franchise Tax Board, Board of Equalization, and Employment Development Department carried out the execution of several search warrants against one large dispensary and its owner for alleged tax evasion and alleged illegal possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.

Authorities further say this massive joint task force had been conducting an investigation of the medical marijuana dispensary for several months, and they have only seized evidence of alleged contraband, but did not make any arrests as of this time. The task force spokesperson says, once the evidence collected during the raid has been fully reviewed, they will make decision as to whether they will make any arrests or file any charges.

The medical marijuana movement started out years ago when a group of courageous California residents realized the medicinal value of marijuana and how much it benefited patients and fought for the right to use the medicine without fear of being arrested.

coffe-beans-1438719-2-m.jpgThere were various advocates and not-for-profit organizations that helped make medical marijuana legal in California today. However, from the humble beginnings, a new era has emerged. Today, the medical marijuana industry is big business. There are many who constantly try to enter the burgeoning California medical marijuana industry to get their share of the profits.

According to a recent news article from Fast Company, one company has recently started selling marijuana-infused coffee. First, it should be noted that, due to FDA regulations and other state and federal laws, this coffee does not actually contain any active TCH compounds, but rather the coffee gives off the odor of very high quality marijuana when brewed. If you are wondering if there is a market for this product, and whether people really want their coffee to smell like marijuana, the answer appears to be yes, as the company CEO reports the coffee beans to be selling faster than they can produce more.
